Killer Whales Official Statement on Coach Fonseca
Chico State's Baird named CCAA Wilson Men's Basketball Player of the Week12/26/2006
Baird a 6-foot-2 junior from Mount Vernon, Wash., had season highs in the Wildcats two games last week as Chico State went 1-1, including an upset over No. 13 Seattle.
In last Wednesday's 85-77 loss to Cal State Stanislaus, Baird matched a season-high 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting and nailed 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. He also pulled down a season-best five rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and notched a steal in 25 minutes of play.
Two days later, Baird led the Wildcats over the No. 13-ranked Redhawks as he scored a season high 28 points on 9 of 13 shooting and buried 6 of 9 three-point attempts. He also grabbed four rebounds with a steal and an assist without turning the ball over in 35 minutes of action.
For the week, Baird averaged 23 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1 turnover and an assist per contest. He was 16 for 24 from the field (.667 percentage) and was 10-for-16 (.625) on three-point field goals.
Killer Whales Overhaul Roster
(Dec. 5th, 2006)---"I'm tired of losing," expressed Alex Fonseca, owner and manager of the most defeated franchise of all-time. In a drastice move-some might say appauling-Fonseca released two players and added two after only one week's play. With giving up a freshman choice and making his one trade, Fonseca is set with a roster he can't touch. "I know many people OUT THERE (yes you) will be thinking that this move is amateur and made too early, but I couldn't just sit and do nothing while benched players couldn't contribute to the team. Hopefully the players I chose to add this early in the season will have consistent numbers all season." Early in the season indeed, after only one week's play Fonseca dropped Tyler Burns of HSU and Tobias Jahn of CPP. He added Jeremy Smith of Sonoma State, a young freshman and Jon Baird of Chico State, a transfer from Shasta. Last week, they combined for 47 total points, 4 assists and 10 rebounds.
"I want to put a winning team on the computer....I want to be .500....I want a winner." Only time will tell if these moved helped or killed the Whales.
Marauders crush Killer Whales 84-69
(Dec. 3, 2006) --And the losses continued for the unstoried franchise. Commented coach Fonseca, "Consistency my friends. I don't understand how our players can play so well one game and just blow it others. This is not the start of the season that I wanted, that we wanted and that all of our fans wanted."
J.T. Tipton took personal responsibility for the loss stating, "I just broke up with my girlfriend and then we got back together before last week. We had so much sex that I just couldn't focus on the game. All I could think about was my pity f*ck."
The Killer Whales take on the Bulldogs next week. Rumor has it Fonseca is looking at bringing in some new talent. (See Below)
